The Wellness Program Staff
The Wellness Program is staffed by Rachel Scherz, WIll Corpuz and Andrew Howard
Wellness Director Rachel Lynn Scherz, M.A. has been working for the past 10 years in
the non-profit field, working on a wide variety of issues including gang intervention,
addiction, domestic violence, juvenile justice, eating disorders, and general
empowerment for at-risk youth.  Utilizing her specialized education at the Gallatin School
of Individualized Study at New York University and training in Somatic and Adolescent
Psychology, she has created and implemented a number of successful psycho-
educational curricula, covering topics ranging from media literacy to self-esteem/body
image for women and girls.  Originally from Brooklyn, New York, Rachel has been the
director of the OMI/E Wellness Program since October 2006.  In this position, Rachel
hopes to create a safe haven for the youth of the OMIE neighborhoods to be heard and
cared for.

Gang Intervention Manager Will Corpuz offers case management services for youth at
risk of gang involvement.  He is also a member of the Asian Pacific Islander Crisis
Response Team, a network of street outreach workers trained to mediate and prevent
gang violence. Will is one of nine children, born and raised in San Francisco under the
sign of Taurus the Bull.  Will is 110%  Filipino and is the proud parent of two children,
Jasmine and Will Jr.  Will is one of the senior staff members of the Beacon, having worked
here for 8 years.

Case Manager/Youth Life Coach Andrew Howard is a native of San Francisco.  As the
OMI/E Beacon Case Manager, Andrew serves youth, aged 10-17, at risk of or involved in
the juvenile justice system.  He acts as mentor to help youth improve their participation in
their school and community.  Working with youth is his passion, because he knows he
has the knowledge needed to survive in a world of negative forces; forces that lure so
many of our youth into a life of incarceration.  “This is my calling,” Andrew often says.
