Our Community & Family Programs provide special events, parent workshops, recreational and enrichment classes for adults and families living or working in the community. We also serve as a local resource and facility for other community groups to extend services to the neighborhood

Middle School Program
As a local partner with James Denman Middle School in San Francisco, our middleschool program is centered on empowering youth with important skills and field exploration to prep them for their future. We specialize in healthy balance of academic, sports and recreational based programs to help youth learn and transition.

High School
Our high school focused programming will help your teen-aged youth become a more active, civic minded member of the community. We offer volunteer and job readiness opportunities and are partnered with other leading organizations to help focus our participants on their post-high school choices.
H.S Volunteer Program
Program Objective
OMI/Excelsior Beacon Center offers high school students who are between the ages of 14 and 18 the opportunity to donate their time and talents to the After School Program while gaining valuable work experience within the Youth Development setting. Volunteering students assume leadership roles as Program Assistants and are placed in Administrative, Safety and Activity Leader positions by the Volunteer Manager who places them based on their expressed interests and talents as well as program needs. Job descriptions vary, but in each role, Volunteers develop computer and interpersonal communication skills which facilitate the smooth running of the After School Program

Eligibility
High school students are eligible to be considered for program participation.
- Students must have completed their freshman year in high school
- Be available to work a minimum of 2 – 3 hours per day at least two days per week
- Participate in the summer student research presentation day
Program Size
To assist Program Staff provide quality programming, one High School Program Assistant per every three camp participants is optimal. Since interested applicants usually outnumber available placements, the program may not be able to accommodate every student, though every effort is made to not turn anyone away.
